The customer applies for a loan online. Craft3 reviews the application and communicates the credit decision to the homeowner in as few as three business days.
The contractor works with the customer on a bid based on the approved design. The bid is submitted to Craft3 and loan documents are prepared for the customer to sign.
NOTE: Your contractor must be approved as a trade ally by the program and/or utility. Email us at HomeEnergy@Craft3.org for more information.
An initial disbursement is made to the contractor. Some projects require an approved permit. The contractor then completes the project as specified in the project bid and submits final paperwork to receive payment.
When your loan documents are signed, your contractor can get to work. When you’re satisfied with the work, you authorize final payment to your contractor.
Note: Clean Water Loan projects in Washington State must be assessed by the Department of Ecology for any potential adverse effects to cultural resources, such as archaeological objects, or historic properties. This review takes approximately 30 days. For more information see the Guide to Cultural Resources Review.
Repay your loan with automated payments through your utility bill.
A Craft3 loan helped Randal, a first-time homeowner, build an accessory dwelling unit (ADU) that will be rented to a tenant who earns 80 percent or less of the area median income. Randal was thrilled to build a unit of lower-income in-fill housing while also creating a permanent asset.
“With Craft3, it is reassuring that I won’t have to wait for a check in the mail. I like that I can open my bank account and see that the deposit is there, then get that paperwork submitted to DEQ. It’s easier on my customers too.”
